SETTANTA PIPELINER
An All-In-One Platform for Pipeline Construction
Introducing the SETTANTA PIPELINER: A purpose-built platform designed specifically for pipe handling, stringing, and lower-in operations.
The PIPELINER is an all-in-one pipe handling platform developed through the collaboration of Laurini and LaValley Industries. Designed from the right-of-way outward, it prioritizes lifting and pipe handling as core functions rather than adapting equipment originally built for other tasks.
Pipeline Construction Has Outgrown Adapted Equipment
Pipeline construction has historically relied on machines designed for other purposes—excavators built for digging and bulldozers adapted into pipelayers (sidebooms). As pipe wall thickness increases and fleet and maintenance costs continue to rise, these adapted platforms are reaching their limits.
The PIPELINER represents a transition from adaptation to purpose-built design.
A Dedicated Pipe Handling Platform
The PIPELINER integrates Laurini engineering with the LaValley Industries DECKHAND® system to deliver a platform designed specifically for pipe lifting and handling operations.
Key characteristics include:
- Built on Laurini’s field-proven architecture
- Integrated DECKHAND pipe handling system
- Engineered with lifting as a primary function
- Designed specifically for pipeline construction workflows
Built for Pipe Handling, Not Just Adapted for It.
| PLATFORM | DESIGN PURPOSE | LIMITATIONS |
|---|---|---|
| Excavator | Digging and Trenching | Lifting ability dependent on position |
| Bulldozer | Pushing and Earthmoving | Leveraged as dedicated lifting machine (pipelayer) with limited operational flexibility |
| PIPELINER | Pipe Handling and Lifting | None. PIPELINER was designed specifically for pipeline workflows |
PIPELINER CORE CAPABILITIES
The PIPELINER platform includes many features that enable consistent performance in any position.
Full 360-Degree Lifting
At the core of the PIPELINER is its ability to maintain consistent lifting performance in any orientation.
Operators can lift pipe from the front, rear, or side without directional compromise, allowing greater positioning flexibility on the right-of-way.
Variable Gauge Undercarriage
The PIPELINER features a hydraulically expandable undercarriage that adjusts from:
- 2.9 to 4.4 meters
- 9.5 to 14.4 ft
This system allows operators to increase machine stability during lifting operations while maintaining maneuverability and transport efficiency.
DECKHAND Integration
The PIPELINER integrates the LaValley Industries DECKHAND HP pipe handling system and operates on a heavy-duty platform engineered for pipeline work.
Elevated Cab
The PIPELINER includes an elevating cab to improve operator visibility during pipe handling operations, especially during loading and positioning pipe.
The cab elevates 5.5 feet, and comes outfitted with FOPS protection as standard.
Integrated Safety Systems
Anti-Tip Monitoring System
- Inclinometers and pressure sensors
- Control system monitoring
- Audible warning when nearing safety limits
DECKHAND AutoClamp™ System
- Grip monitoring during lifting
- Automatic hold during pressure loss
- Lift lights indicate lifting status
Interchangeable Booms
The PIPELINER supports modular boom configurations including:
- DECKHAND boom
- Digging boom
- Pipelayer boom
A quick-connect system allows hydraulic and electronic connections to be made efficiently, enabling the platform to support multiple phases of pipeline construction.
PIPELINER operation FAQs
Built for Pipeliners,
Designed for the Right-of-way
When lifting, stringing, and lowering pipe can be handled by a single platform, crews gain more control, simpler logistics, and greater operational flexibility across the ROW.
